Floating Belle
The sixth glass work in the new renal department commission for the Dooradoyle Hospital Limerick.
This is sited at the entrance to the dialysis ward and is the coloured decal image of a young woman floating in a sparkling blue sea with an expression of tranquil ease. Here I have chosen to sandwich fine crushed glass and narrow lengths of glass to give depth and recreate the gentle movement of a calm sea.
In my view it was essential that the work would be conducive to relaxation, inspiration and upliftment of both patients and staff and that the changing quality of light would keep the works engaging.
Dimensions of this glass work is 1524 mm wide by 914 mm high.
An article of the works in the Dooradoyle Hospital was published in the annual publication of the Glass Society of Ireland, Glass Ireland.
